MLB Insider Reveals The Latest On Rafael Devers

On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox and star third baseman Rafael Devers came to an agreement on a one-year, $17.5 million deal, which ensures that Devers will avoid arbitration.
The Red Sox remain intent on trying to extend Devers, who is in the final of year of his original contract before being eligible for free agency.
Fans in Boston are shuddering at the idea of losing their star third baseman next offseason in free agency, especially after the team lost shortstop Xander Bogaerts, who signed an 11-year, $280 million contract with the San Diego Padres.
Early on Wednesday, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that the Red Sox and Devers’ camp are actively engaged in talks for a multiyear contract extension, stating that discussions are “steady.”
Rafael Devers camp and Red Sox remain engaged in multiyear talks. Sides agreed at $17.5M for 2023, a nice sign. Discussion said to be “steady” on multiyear possibility. Devers has been seeking $300M plus, and recent star deals may only have reinforced that goal.

Heyman also reported that Devers is seeking $300 million plus.
With players such as Bogaerts, Trea Turner, Aaron Judge, and others receiving large deals worth at least $300 million, this bodes quite well for Devers.
The 26-year-old was a part of the Red Sox 2018 World Series championship team.
The two-time All-Star and former Silver Slugger hit .295 with 27 home runs and posted a WAR of 4.4 during the 2022 season.
For his career, Devers has a total of 139 home runs and owns a lifetime batting average of .283, all while posting a 15.2 WAR.
Red Sox fans are hopeful that a deal will be worked out soon.
Devers is the piece that the Red Sox appear to be intent on building around for the future.
Boston has already signed Masataka Yoshida and Justin Turner to bolster the offense, and will look to lock up Devers for the long haul.
