The New York Yankees have added another intriguing name to their front office.

Former New York Mets GM Omar Minaya is joining the staff as an adviser in the baseball operations department.

This comes just two days after New York had hired former San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean as a senior vice president and special assistant to Brian Cashman, who serves as general manager of the Yankees.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network was the first to report the news of the Minaya hire, and provided an update on the situation via Twitter, discussing what Minaya brings to the Yankees front office.

Heyman notes that both Minaya and Sabean are well versed in the scouting department.

The Yankees front office has been focused heavily on analytics in recent years, and the hiring of Sabean and Minaya, both of whom have deep backgrounds in scouting, should help create more of a balance in the Yankees front office.

Different perspectives are important when evaluating talent.

Years ago, the main method for evaluating talent was based on scouting as opposed to analytics, but in recent years, analytics have become the favored approach, especially within the Yankees front office.

The Yankees won 99 games during the 2022 regular season and finished with their first division title since 2019.

They knocked out the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS before falling short in the ALCS against the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros.

New York has also had a busy offseason, having re-signed both Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge, and signing left-hander Carlos Rodon.
