The New York Yankees not only own the best record in baseball by a mile (at 56-21, they lead the Houston Astros, the closest squad, by seven games), but they were also fantastic in June.

It means that the Yanks, far from slowing down, are taking it up a notch.

They had a 22-6 record last month, one of the best in the league.

They are a fairly balanced organization with few weaknesses, but their bullpen has been something else.

“Yankee relievers in June: 10-1 with a 2.00 ERA,” Codify Baseball tweeted.

That’s an unbelievably low ERA.

The most amazing part of it all is that the unit is currently without several crucial performers.

The Yankees Have Been Able To Overcome Key Absences

For example, Jonathan Loaisiga is on the shelf with a shoulder issue, and Aroldis Chapman has lost weeks with an Achilles injury.

Chapman is expected back today, but has missed a lot of time.

Chad Green was lost with a season-ending elbow ligament injury that resulted in Tommy John surgery.

Oh, and Zack Britton has also missed the whole year to this point, too.

He should be an option at some point in the second half.

Other names have stepped up: Clay Holmes is perhaps the best reliever in baseball, with a 0.49 ERA.

Michael King (2.38 ERA in 41.2 frames) has been brilliant, too, and some unexpected names, like Ron Marinaccio, Lucas Luetge, Wandy Peralta, Miguel Castro, Albert Abreu, and others have been good enough to help.

Once Chapman, Loaisiga, and Britton return, this unit could be downright deep and scary.

The organization has a knack (and resources, and talent to be honest) to develop pitchers and get the best out of them at all levels.
