Warriors Release An Official Andre Iguodala Injury Update

The 2022-23 season has been a big struggle for the Golden State Warriors, and a major reason why has been injuries.

The defending NBA champions have been without Stephen Curry for long stretches due to multiple injuries, while forward Andrew Wiggins missed about a month of action earlier in the season.

In addition, veteran Andre Iguodala didn’t make his season debut until early January because of a hip injury.

He played in just three games, then he went out again until March 5, and just when it appeared he was going to get significant playing time moving forward, he injured his wrist on March 13.

The team has announced that Iguodala had successful surgery on his injured wrist and will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Golden State first acquired Iguodala in the summer of 2013, and he quickly helped it win three world titles in four years starting in his second season with the team.

He left the Warriors in 2019, but he returned in the 2021 offseason, and although he didn’t play a ton last season, he did play a role in their fourth championship of the Curry era.

Iguodala isn’t exactly the same player he was when he was younger, but his experience, defense and facilitating skills prove to be invaluable come playoff time.

As it stands, it looks like the earliest he could return would be the first round of this year’s playoffs — if the Warriors make the playoffs to begin with.

They’re currently in sixth place in the Western Conference, but they’re just half a game ahead of the seventh-place Dallas Mavericks, and finishing sixth or higher would allow them to bypass the play-in tournament and make the postseason outright.
