It’s easy to say that Mac Jones of the New England Patriots had the best season among rookie quarterbacks last season who had substantial playing time.

After all, he was the only one with a winning record and led his team to the playoffs.

Yet despite that initial success, the biggest knock on his game is that he’d rather make the short pass even if an opportunity for a big gain is available.

That’s why he only averaged 7.3 yards per completion for a total of 3,801 yards.

His accuracy is also suspect after throwing 13 interceptions against 22 touchdowns.

But after a bitter defeat to the Buffalo Bills in last year’s Wild Card round, Jones has taken huge strides to elevate his game.

Aside from working on his physique, he is also proving that he has a strong arm.

Barstool Sports’ Jerry Thornton shared a short clip of Jones completing a deep throw.

He made a five-step drop and generated some power before throwing the ball.

But while it’s good that he has the arm strength to cover much of the field with one throw, it remains to be seen if he can do it consistently when defensive linemen are coming for him.

Things Are Looking Up For Jones And The Patriots

Being a student of the game will help Jones succeed in New England.

It’s how he mastered the Patriots’ playbook better than Cam Newton.

It’s how he learned on the fly as a starter from Day 1 and helped the Patriots earn ten victories in his rookie year.

Jones is obsessed with making himself better and it shows with the results he has shown this offseason.

Therefore, the Patriots are ready for the grind because their leader is setting the tone.
