The New York Yankees were supposed to host the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night for Game 5 of the American League Division Series.

Weather did not allow it, however.

The problem was that MLB, since announcing the game would start on a delay around 7, didn’t provide any additional updates until past 9 pm, and it was to tell people the game was going to be postponed until today.

They failed to think about the fans, and fans don’t forget.

Brian Cashman, the general manager of the Yankees, offered his apologies for the situation, but fans lost an entire night hoping for a game that would never materialize.

There Were A Lot Of Empty Seats In Yankee Stadium Just Before The Start Of The Game

New York Daily News reporter Kristie Ackert showed a video of Yankee Stadium about half an hour before the scheduled start time on Tuesday afternoon, and you could see lots of empty seats.

“I guess a lot of people couldn’t come back… #Yankees #ALDS. #MLB really owes the people here last night an apology,” she tweeted.

She is right: the league should offer a sincere apology to loyal fans who waited for hours.

The other problem was that the game was moved to the afternoon with just a few hours of notice: people work and have different commitments that may get in the way of them going to the stadium in time for a 4 pm ET game.

In any case, by the second inning, many of the empty seats had been occupied and the crowd was electric, mostly because of the early three-run lead.

However, that doesn’t take away the fact that MLB toyed with its fans once again.
