Historically, Venezuela has been a baseball country and a place in which MLB organizations can find more than a few diamonds in the rough.

There are lots of scouts scattered around the nation, a lot of passion about baseball and dreams of greatness among the young players.

That’s the perfect recipe to create a seemingly endless source of quality prospects.

Last week, MLB Pipeline posted its top 100 prospects list, and there are seven Venezuelans on it.

You can take a peek here.

Whether it is as a catcher or as a designated hitter, Francisco Alvarez of the New York Mets is surely going to be a factor this year.

He has legendary power for the catching position.

At number eight, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio and his immense physical gifts give him a top-ten spot.

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Diego Cartaya would be an option to eventually take over at the backstop if it wasn’t for the fact that Will Smith is already the Dodgers’ catcher of the future.

Two shortstops are next on MLB Pipeline’s list: the Colorado Rockies’ Ezequiel Tovar (25th) and New York Yankees’ Oswald Peraza, checking in at 52.

Two additional Venezuelan shortstops, Luisangel Acuna and Brayan Rocchio, are in the seventies range, while Detroit Tigers pitcher Wilmer Flores is ranked 95th.

Venezuela is, and has always been, strong in middle infielders when it comes to prospects.

There are also lots of catchers and pitchers.

Other countries might have more, but there is a reason why talent evaluators are crazy about Venezuela.
