The Titans Could Reportedly Cut An All-Pro Safety

After a disappointing 7-10 finish last season, the Tennessee Titans have made quite a few changes so far this offseason.

They have overhauled their offensive line, and they have also added former San Francisco 49ers defensive linemen Azeez Al-Shaair and Arden Key.

Tennessee has reportedly asked safety Kevin Byard to take a pay cut, but he refused, and now he could be released by the team, at least partly in order to save some salary cap space.

Byard, 29, has made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro first team twice in his seven-year NFL career, the entirety of which has been spent with the Titans.

This past season he put up six passes defended, four interceptions and 108 total tackles (69 solo).

Needless to say, losing Byard would be a sizable blow for the team.

While Tennessee was one of the NFL’s worst offensive teams in 2022, it finished first in rushing yards allowed, and maintaining that type of productivity is imperative to its chances of making the playoffs next year.

Although quarterback Ryan Tannehill looked over the hill this past season, the team is moving forward with him under center, even though he nearly set a new career low with 13 touchdown passes.

As usual, the Titans’ meal ticket will be star running back Derrick Henry, who put up 1,538 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2022 while earning his third Pro Bowl nod.

The team needs help at wide receiver, especially after trading A.J. Brown last season and losing veteran Robert Woods this offseason.

Woods was its only player to surpass the 500-yard mark in receiving last season.
