The Panthers Have Announced Another Coach Joining Their Staff

The Carolina Panthers continue to add wisdom and experience to their coaching staff.

Shortly after hiring Frank Reich as their new Head Coach and Ejiro Evero as their Defensive Coordinator, they’ve now added former HC Jim Caldwell to become a senior assistant.

The 68-year-old veteran — who was on their shortlist and interviewed for the Head Coaching position — will advise Reich on all aspects of the game, namely offense, defense, and special teams.

Notably, Caldwell and Reich actually go a long way back, as they both worked together in the Indianapolis Colts in 2006, with Reich serving as an intern and Caldwell working as assistant HC and QBs coach for Tony Dungy.

Notably, they won the Super Bowl together, and then Reich took Caldwell’s position when the ladder replaced Dungy as the Colts’ HC.

Caldwell also has a Super Bowl ring from his days as the Baltimore Ravens’ Offensive Coordinator, and he led the Detroit Lions to a 62-50 record and four playoff appearances in seven years.

Jim Caldwell will join the likes of Don Capers and Josh McCown as two major additions to the coaching staff, with the former serving as a senior defensive assistant and the latter as their new quarterbacks coach.

Nonetheless, the Panthers still have plenty of work to do in the offseason, starting with the QB position.

Some believe they’re ready to run it back with Sam Darnold behind center, while others believe they could look at other options, with Derek Carr as the best name available in the free agency market.
