The NFL Announces 1 Penalty Will Now Be A Personal Foul

Over the past few years, the NFL has gotten extremely strict with penalties and protecting players, namely the quarterback.

Every single year it seems the league makes it harder and harder to play a physical game, which obviously impacts players on the defensive side of the football.

They’ve made yet another change this year, which could cause a stir with players and coaches again.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the league has increased the yardage penalty for tripping from 10 yards to 15.

The NFL has approved making a tripping penalty into a personal foul. Moving forward that’s now a 15-yard penalty (was 10).

This isn’t an enormous change, nor will it make a lot of headlines, but it definitely continues the trend of the NFL making changes to how the game is officiated from year to year.

One penalty that has driven defenses crazy recently is roughing the passer, as it seems defensive players can’t even touch the quarterback anymore.

Along with the frustration of defensive players and coaches around the league, the NFL has yet to address this problem, which seems to significantly impact the game on a regular basis and can swing outcomes.

The offseason has only really just begun, so things can still be addressed moving forward, meaning there’s a chance that changes may still be on the horizon.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the roughing the passer penalty changes or becomes reviewable in the near future.

In the meantime, the league will look toward the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft on April 27 as the next main event that will impact teams across the NFL, with teams bringing in a new crop of players from the college level.
