The Mets Tab 1 Ace As The Game 1 Starter

The postseason is here, and it begins tomorrow with the Wild Card Series, something that was experimented with in 2020 but is now official.

In the American League, we’ll have the Tampa Bay Rays taking on the Cleveland Guardians while the Seattle Mariners travel to face the Toronto Blue Jays.

In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies will match up with the St. Louis Cardinals while the San Diego Padres battle the New York Mets.

The Mets announced that Max Scherzer would be getting the ball in Game 1 against the Padres on Friday night.

He’ll face off against Yu Darvish.

Scherzer To Start Game 1

This will be a good pitching matchup.

We can probably expect a nice little pitcher’s duel between Darvish and Scherzer.

But the Mets made the right call giving Scherzer the ball for the opener.

Scherzer’s competitive spirit and postseason experience make him the ideal choice to open up a short series.

It’s likely that Jacob deGrom will get the start in Game 2 on Saturday.

That hasn’t been announced yet.

For now, Scherzer will get the start for the Mets to kick off their first postseason since 2016.

Scherzer dealt with some injuries this season, but when healthy, he’s been the same Max Scherzer that he’s been for so long, posting an 11-5 record in 23 starts with a 2.29 ERA.

You can bet the fans at Citi Field are going to be charged up and ready for their first postseason game in six years.

Having Scherzer on the mound certainly helps too, as the Mets may have a big advantage, especially being at home for all three games of this series, should the series reach a deciding game.
