The Magic Own An Odd NBA Mark This Season

The Orlando Magic have a bright future, but you may not tell by their record or the standings.

As of now, Jamahl Mosley’s team has won 18 out of 29 games, sitting at the 13th spot in the Eastern Conference and way outside of the playoff picture.

Notably, though, three of those 18 wins have come against the team with the best record in the Association: the Boston Celtics.

The Magic snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Celtics and have now upset them three times in a row, with first-overall pick Paolo Banchero never losing to the C’s thus far in his young career.

The Celtics have won 35 games with just 13 losses, meaning the Magic have accounted for nearly one-fourth of the games they’ve dropped this season.

Orlando’s combination of size, constant switches, and other-worldly length have frustrated Joe Mazzulla’s offense more often than not this season, giving the rest of the league the blueprint as to how to stop the reigning Eastern Conference champions in the playoffs.

The young Magic could still try and make a run at a playoff spot, as they’re 4.5 games behind the 10th-seeded Chicago Bulls, who currently own the final ticket to the play-in tournament.

But even if they closed out the season with a losing record and failed to come close to postseason contention, Magic fans still should feel quite optimistic about the future, as it seems like the team has put together a special roster with sky-high upside for the first time in over a decade.
