The Angels Make It Official With Phil Nevin

When the Los Angeles Angels fired Joe Maddon in the middle of a historic losing streak, Phil Nevin was the one tasked with taking over the sliding squad.

The Angels didn’t enjoy a rebirth like the Philadelphia Phillies with Rob Thomson, who took them to the playoffs after the front office dismissed Joe Girardi: Nevin was unable to completely turn the Angels around.

However, he left some good sensations and the front office liked his performance at the helm.

As a result, he is being rewarded with a promotion from interim manager to the owner of the job position on a full-time, official basis.

Nevin accumulated a 46-59 record in 105 with the Angels, before the start of Wednesday’s action.

The Angels Are Giving Nevin The Keys To The Dugout

That’s good enough for a .438 winning percentage: it’s not good, but the Angels’ roster is evidently flawed behind Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout.

Speaking of Trout, he recently had some praise for Nevin.

“Phil’s been doing a great job. He takes care of the players. Doing a good job with managing. He’s fun to play for,” The Athletic’s Sam Blum said recently, quoting Trout.

When you have the support of one of the stars of the team, you likely have earned a place in the organization’s long-term plans.

That is exactly what happened with Nevin and the Angels.

The front office hopes that with a good offseason and Nevin as the dugout leader, the Angels can finally end their playoff drought, one that has been going on since 2014.
