Russell Westbrook Has Made NBA History

Monday was another rough day for the Los Angeles Lakers, as they were defeated by the Brooklyn Nets, 121-104, in New York City.

The Lakers now have a 23-28 record and are again the 13th team in the West.

There were high hopes that the team could greatly improve on their record from last season but that is seeming less and less likely.

But it wasn’t all bad news for the Lakers on Monday.

Russell Westbrook is now 10th all-time in career assists.

Perhaps the best moment of the evening was when Russell Westbrook moved to 10th place on the NBA’s all-time career assists list.

Westbrook did this during the second quarter of the loss to Brooklyn, surpassing Gary Payton, who finished his career with 8,966 assists.

At the end of the game, Westbrook had 8,972 assists.

The season has been full of major ups and downs for Westbrook.

This is his first year being a bench player and he has mostly taken well to the role adjustments, scoring 15.8 points, 7.5 assists, and 6.3 rebounds per game.

On Monday night, Westbrook was good for 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists as he stepped up in the absence of both LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who were injured.

Westbrook has had many rough patches during the season, games in which he appeared inconsistent and made some questionable shot selections.

When he’s been good, he’s been great but when he’s been subpar, he’s been very unreliable.

Despite his problems, Westbrook is still in the running to win Sixth Man of the Year for the first time in his career.

If he has more games like the one on Monday, his chances of securing that trophy will be even higher.
