The Detroit Tigers have a little something special with top prospect Riley Greene.

The 22-year-old made his MLB debut last season with the Tigers and has ignited some hope for the future in the Motor City.

On Friday, the Tigers squared off against the Philadelphia Phillies in Grapefruit League play.

Greene came to the plate in the top of the third inning with one out and a runner on second base.

Facing right-hander Mike Adams, Greene worked the count to 3-1 before taking a big hack and sending one out to left field for an opposite-field home run.

MLB posted a video of the highlight on Twitter.

One of Greene’s most impressive traits so far is that he can hit for power to the opposite field.

Fortunately for the Tigers, that opposite-field power was on full display against the Phillies.

There really was no doubt that this ball wasn’t going to come back.

The young outfielder certainly put a charge into that one.

Greene appeared in 93 games during the 2022 regular season.

The 22-year-old hit for a .253 batting average and crushed five home runs.

He also had an on-base percentage of .321, a slugging percentage of .362, an OPS of .682, and an OPS+ of 99.

The future is certainly bright for the young slugger.

Along with Spencer Torkelson, Greene is prepared to help usher in a new era of Tigers baseball in the City of Detroit.

And if Greene can build off of what he did today, then the future may be much brighter for the Tigers.
