Phillies Insider Reveals David Robertson Injury Update

The Philadelphia Phillies made it all the way to the National League Championship Series this year.

They left behind two division champs: the St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves.

They did it mostly without their closer and most reliable reliever, David Robertson.

As you can probably recall, Robertson strained his calf celebrating Bryce Harper‘s home run in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Cards.

It was an odd way to get injured, but here we are.

He recently said he hoped to be ready to return in time for the Championship Series against the Padres.

Robertson Will Test His Calf

Recent reports are encouraging, but still not conclusive: we will have to wait on another report to know for sure whether he will be available or not.

“Hello from San Diego. David Robertson is about to test his right calf with a throwing session. His status for the NLCS remains unclear. Still possible he could be on roster,” The Athletic’s Matt Gelb, who covers the Phillies, tweeted on Monday.

The Phillies bullpen is not as good as the Padres’, but they could make it a bit more competitive if they are able to count on Roberston.

The thing with calf injuries is that, as any muscle-related ailments, they are tricky and have somewhat high probabilities of re-aggravation.

The veteran right-hander was solid in 2022, with a 2.40 ERA in 63.2 innings between the Chicago Cubs and the Phillies.

He took care of the ninth inning upon arriving in Philly, and was successful with six saves and a 2.70 ERA.

Manager Rob Thomson is crossing his fingers and hoping he can make a swift recovery and be ready to help the Phillies’ relief corps.
