The Boston Celtics were looking to make a statement on Tuesday night in their opening game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Boston wanted to show the NBA world that last year wasn’t a fluke and they have only gotten better during the offseason.

They needed to send a message to everyone: the Celtics are the best in the East.

The team definitely made a strong argument for that case when they took down the 76ers 126-117.

A lot of press is talking about Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the backcourt duo who lit up the scoreboard all night.

However, it needs to be noted that a different player on the roster had a downright historic night.

In fact, it was literally perfect.

Grant Williams scored 15 points, earning a 100% field goal percentage and a 100% three-point percentage.

The man was reliable and clutch and able to land nearly everything he attempted.

This shows that the Celtics have so much more than just Tatum and Brown.

Perfect Night

It’s ironic that Williams’ great opening night came on the heels of him and the Celtics not being able to work out a new contract extension.

That means that Williams is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Maybe the troubles he’s been having hammering out a deal with the front office gave him a bit more drive, a push to be even better, to prove himself more.

He did just that.

Williams has been a great player for a while now, averaging 37.2% from the three-point line last season.

The Celtics do better than they have role players like him stepping up and taking some of the pressure off of Tatum and Brown.
