Quarterback Cam Newton used to be considered one of the NFL‘s better signal-callers not too long ago, but injuries have rendered him unable to be a starter on most if not all teams.

In 2021, he played eight games for the Carolina Panthers, starting five of them, and he completed just 54.8 percent of his pass attempts while throwing for 684 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.

He appears to be campaigning for a return to the league after sitting out last season, and he participated in a workout at Auburn University’s Pro Day.

Many fans aren’t impressed with what they saw in the video.

Newton was the first player chosen in the 2011 NFL Draft, and he won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award after posting 4,051 passing yards and 21 passing touchdowns, as well as 706 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

With his help, the Panthers started to become a winner again, and in 2015, when he threw for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns while winning league MVP honors, he led them to the Super Bowl.

However, they fell 24-10 to the Denver Broncos in Peyton Manning’s farewell game.

Newton played poorly in that contest, completing just 18 of 41 passes while throwing one interception and zero touchdown passes.

In more recent years, he has dealt with a shoulder injury and a Lisfranc fracture that sapped him of much of his ability.

His days as a starter are likely over, but perhaps he could be a viable backup for a number of teams, even teams that have Super Bowl aspirations.
