NFL Analyst Discusses Cowboys OC Position

The Dallas Cowboys enter the NFL offseason with many more questions than answers.

Jerry Jones has reaffirmed his commitment to Mike McCarthy as his coach for the foreseeable future.

Notably, he also said the same of Jason Garrett, who was the team’s head coach for more than nine years in what was a mediocre tenure.

But beyond that discussion, the Cowboys risk losing one of its top assistants, Kellen Moore, who’s gauged league-wide interest again.

More than that, McCarthy was non-commital about Moore’s future with the team, even if he decided to come back to the organization.

That’s kind of shocking, as Moore has been one of the few consistent pieces of the coaching staff as of late.

That’s why NFL insider Connor Livesay believes it would be a mistake to let Moore go, especially considering the fact that there aren’t that many candidates that would do a better job as OC:

“I’m at a weird place with Kellen Moore. I don’t think he’s a problem, but I’m also not sure he’s the solution for this team,” Livesay tweeted. “That being said, you can do much worse and some of the names being thrown out as options if gone are alarming.”

Moore has done what he could with an injury-prone quarterback who won’t stop regressing and is unable to scramble anymore.

He’s also put together a solid running game despite having a washed-out, overpaid running back who’s not able to break a tackle anymore to save his life.

So, all things considered, while he may not be the finest offensive mastermind in the game, the Cowboys could sure do a lot worse, and would be better off pointing the finger at someone else if they’re looking for scapegoats.
