The San Diego Padres haven’t had much luck this season against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who buried them in the NL West and won the division by 22 games.

Last night’s NLDS opener was hardly any different for the Friars who, despite a late rally, still fell short and dropped Game 1 by a final of 5-3.

They’ll have Yu Darvish going tonight in Game 2, but all the momentum is currently on the Dodgers’ side.

After the game, Hall-of-Famer David Ortiz gave a brutally honest and hilarious take on the state of the Padres, saying, “when you play against your daddy, you have to try and do something different,” drawing laughs from fellow FOX Sports analysts Kevin Burkhardt, Alex Rodriguez, and Frank Thomas.

Padres Unable To Stop Dodgers

There’s really no better way to put it.

The fact of the matter is that the Padres have been unable to contain the Dodgers.

They went 5-14 against the NL West champs during the regular season, which didn’t exactly bode too well for them heading into this series.

Once again, the Dodgers have found a way to exploit the Padres’ weaknesses.

There’s a reason why the Padres finished so far back of the Dodgers despite still winning 89 games and reaching the postseason.

The Dodgers won 111 games during the regular season, and much of it has to do with them being able to dominate their division rivals, specifically the Padres.

As previously mentioned, San Diego will send Darvish to the mound tonight to try and stop the bleeding, but they’ll be facing Clayton Kershaw, who seems to have conquered his postseason demons and turned into a reliable October ace.

We’ll see if the Padres receive Ortiz’s message about needing to do something different.
