Max Scherzer Made MLB History In His Return To The Mound

At long last, Max Scherzer is back from the injured list and has rejoined the New York Mets.

It was an oblique injury that put him on the injured list, one that he suffered while facing the St. Louis Cardinals back in May.

But that all seems like a distant memory.

Scherzer took the mound against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night and picked up right where he left off, throwing six shutout innings and striking out 11 Reds hitters.

Though he did not factor into the decision, Scherzer made some history on the mound.

ESPN Stats & Info tweeted that with Scherzer’s 11 strikeouts, he now has 28 games of at least 10 strikeouts and no walks, passing Curt Schilling for second all-time.

Mad Max Dominates Again

Did anybody really expect anything less out of Scherzer?

Mad Max is back in full swing and now only trails Randy Johnson for the most games with 10 or more strikeouts and no walks.

Johnson has 36.

But the point is, Scherzer is back and is ready to dominate again.

Baseball wasn’t the same while he was out.

And to make some history in his first game back since mid-May?

That’s quite something.

But again, did you expect anything less from a guy like Scherzer?

He also only allowed two hits and did not give up a single run in his return, lowering his already impressive ERA down to 2.26.

Unfortunately for the Mets, the Reds won the game on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Mike Moustakas, spoiling Scherzer’s return, but it didn’t take away from how dominant Scherzer was for six innings on Tuesday.

He gave the Mets a chance to win the game.

The offense just didn’t show up.
