Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham sounded very defeated on Friday night.

His team was just conquered in one of the toughest and most painful losses of the season, falling 111-110 to the Dallas Mavericks because of a shocking buzzer-beater from Maxi Kleber.

Ham opened up about his team’s defeat and touched upon several things that led to it.

First and foremost, he noted that Kyrie Irving “made it difficult” for them with his 38 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Regarding the final shot of the game, he said that Irving found his man and that “we didn’t get there fast enough.”

Ham also took his team to task for being sloppy and not playing hard enough, saying, “I thought we weren’t disciplined in certain stages.”

Finally, he accepted that his team was just not doing what it should have from the free point line: “We gotta make more than 19. We make our free throws, we’re probably not having this conversation.”

Ham has every reason to be disappointed after Friday night.

The Lakers are currently trying to make the playoffs, which means that every single win is vital.

They simply have to find victory as much as they can and losing by one point is painful and detrimental to their postseason chances.

Following Friday night’s loss, the Lakers are the tenth team in the West.

That means they are barely hanging onto their spot in next month’s play-in tournament.

They now have 11 games left in the season and are desperate to try to climb higher in the standings.

Time is running out for the Lakers and if they continue to have nights like Friday, they will be taking an extra long summer break.
