Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander is still dominating at age 39.

Not only is he posting elite numbers, but he is also doing it against the strongest possible competition.

His last two starts came against the New York teams: the Yankees last week and the Mets on Wednesday.

He allowed just one earned run in the two outings, which came against the Bombers.

New York fans have probably had enough of Verlander for a while.

“They may be throwing a party throughout New York today seeing Houston #Astros ace Justin Verlander leave town. Verlander dominated the #Yankees, and then the #Mets during his trip against two of the best teams in baseball: 0.60 ERA, 15 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted.

Dominating Against Elite Opposition

A 0.60 ERA in 15 frames against the Mets and Yankees offenses is extremely impressive: the Astros can be happy knowing that they have a pitcher on their roster capable of completely dominating excellent hitters like Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Aaron Judge, Starling Marte, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and many more.

For the year, Verlander has an incredible 10-3 record and an excellent 2.03 ERA in 15 starts, covering 97.1 innings.

His WHIP is at 0.97, and he has 90 strikeouts and a 0.83 WHIP after Wednesday’s gem.

He kept the Mets off the scoreboard for eight innings today, with six strikeouts to add to his tally.

After missing most of 2020 and all of the 2021 campaign, Verlander is showing no signs of slowing down at almost 40.

Pitching like this, it wouldn’t be crazy to see him stay in the league for at least two or three more years..

He is a special pitcher, and should be recognized and celebrated.
