Jose Trevino Gives New York The Ultimate Endorsement

After being acquired from the Texas Rangers in April, Jose Trevino was not expected to factor too much into the New York Yankees’ plans for 2022.

The Yankees had acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Minnesota Twins.

But when Rortvedt began to deal with injuries, Trevino seized his opportunity, claiming the starting catcher job.

The 30-year-old had hit his stride and was one of six Yankees to be named to the American League All-Star team in July, joining Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Nestor Cortes, Clay Holmes, and Gerrit Cole.

On Wednesday, Trevino appeared on MLB Network’s Hot Stove morning show and expressed his gratitude for playing in New York.

“New York brings out the best in you,” said Trevino.

“You want to be the best? Go play in New York.”

Trevino Endorses New York

Trevino may have been the unsung hero for the Yankees in 2022.

He earned an All-Star nod for the first time in his career.

In addition to that, the Yankees catcher won a Gold Glove and earned the Platinum Glove Award in the American League.

At the plate, the Oral Roberts alum hit .248 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI.

He also picked up 24 extra-base hits and logged 130 total bases.

Time and again, Trevino has spoken highly of New York and what playing for the Yankees means to him.

He helped carry the team to the ALCS for the first time since 2019 and enjoyed the opportunity to play in front of Yankees fans.

Trevino clearly relishes the opportunity to play in New York and is excited to get going again in 2023.
