Graphic Shows Just How Stacked The Astros Lineup Is For 2023

The Houston Astros may not have a general manager as of now after firing James Click a few weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean they are taking a nap.

To the contrary: they remain alert on the market tendencies and free agent additions.

They proved that by making an important signing on Monday: they are bringing in first baseman Jose Abreu, the 2020 AL MVP, to an already stacked lineup.

Reports say that Houston will sign Abreu to a three-year deal.

The top six hitters in that lineup are fearsome.

The Astros lineup was incredibly deep and talented in 2022, and could be even better next year.

Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pena and Yordan Alvarez headlined the unit in 2022, and Michael Brantley added some length too when he was healthy.

The Astros Expect Big Things From Abreu

You could say that Abreu, who hit .304 with a .824 OPS this past season with the Chicago White Sox, is going to Houston to fill the role that Trey Mancini was supposed to fill offensively.

Gurriel is currently a free agent, but he could be brought back to be the utility infielder and first baseman/designated hitter.

If that happens, this lineup could have virtually no weaknesses outside of catcher Martin Maldonado, who fills a crucial role as a game-caller, pitch framer, and overall defensive player.

The Astros’ next goal should be bringing in a starter to replace Justin Verlander (or the pitcher himself) and a left-handed bat.

They are pretty much set everywhere else.

This is still a powerhouse, one that managed to get even better by signing Abreu.
