After the weekend series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding Freddie Freeman and his departure from the latter, a team with which he won the 2021 World Series.

It was leaked by some sources that Freeman had fired his agent, and the reasons are still murky.

Doug Gottlieb said on Wednesday that Casey Close, Freeman’s former agent, didn’t communicate the Braves’ last offer to the Freemans.

The player released a statement saying that the weekend (Braves fans greeted him with cheers and applauses) was tough on him and that he was sorting his agent situation, without providing many details about what happened.

Close, through his agency Excel Sports Management, released a statement of his own.

It was widely believed that the Braves didn’t want to go over five years in their offer to Freeman, which is why the player’s camp ended up taking a six-year, $162 offer from the Dodgers.

Who Is Right And Who Is Wrong?

Whether that was true or not, it remains to be seen, because we don’t know who to trust anymore.

Close says that he relayed every offer Freeman received to the player and his family.

He also says that the Braves have “fostered a narrative about the negotiations which, stated plainly, is false.”

Gottlieb said, via Twitter, that “Casey Close never told Freddie Freeman about the Braves final offer, that is why Freeman fired him. He found out in Atlanta this weekend. It isn’t that rare to have happen in MLB, but it happened – Close knew Freddie would have taken the ATL deal.”

Close threatened legal actions against Gottlieb, so we may just be seeing the beginning of a long process.
