Freddie Freeman Comments On Firing His Agent

On Tuesday, it was revealed that Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Freddie Freeman had fired his agent because he was unhappy about how his offseason contract negotiations were handled.

That started off some controversy on social media: fans started to speculate what exactly ticked off Freeman, who ended up signing a six-year, $162 million deal with the Dodgers after playing his whole career to that point with the Atlanta Braves.

Freeman, through MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, offered a short statement about the situation.

“Freddie Freeman’s statement: ‘Last weekend in Atlanta was a very emotional time for me and my family. I am working through some issues with my longtime agents at Excel. My representation remains a fluid situation and I will update if needed,’” Bowman tweeted, quoting the player.

Something Clearly Happened Regarding Freeman’s Visit To Atlanta Over The Weekend

By reading the statement, it’s evident that Freeman’s decision to fire his agent had something to do with the fact that he didn’t re-sign with the Braves.

The Braves were reportedly against offering him a six-year deal, and instead, they traded for Oakland Athletics slugger Matt Olson to be their first baseman.

They also extended him on a lucrative deal.

Of course, Olson is five years younger than Freeman, and that likely had something to do with the team’s decision to move on.

But perhaps Freeman was willing to accept a lower deal to return to the Braves.

We will likely never know the exact details, but something clearly happened and Freeman is now self-represented.

The slugger has just eight homers so far with the Dodgers, but they come with a really solid .304/.388/.488 batting line.
