Former Brewers GM Has A Departure Plan In Place

The Milwaukee Brewers now have a vacancy in their front office after the departure of president of baseball operations David Stearns.

Stearns has been with the Brewers since 2016.

In that seven-year span, the Brewers reached the postseason four times.

With Stearns gone, general manager Matt Arnold has been promoted to the position previously held by Stearns.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Stearns and owner Mark Attanasio had an agreement that if any other team were to approach him, they would need the latter’s permission to interview.

Adam McCalvy of MLB.com indicated that Stearns and Attanasio had conversations about this and that Attanasio plans to grant any team who wishes to interview Stearns for a position permission to do so.

Brewers, Stearns Have Special Agreement

As Heyman notes, the New York Mets are a team that Stearns has been linked to in recent years, so it is possible that the Mets could approach him about a potential position.

Of course, the Mets, or any other team would need Attanasio’s permission, given that Stearns is leaving with a year still left on his contract.

However, it appears that permission will be granted to any team that comes calling for Stearns’ services.

The Mets are an interesting possibility, especially given that Stearns is a native of New York.

So, that could potentially open a door for Stearns to land something in New York.

Perhaps they could hire him to be the general manager and promote Billy Eppler to the president of baseball operations role.
