Utilityman Edmundo Sosa found a home with the Philadelphia Phillies after being traded there by the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline.

The Cardinals let him go to clear a spot for Paul DeJong on their roster.

Just over two months later, the Cards and Phils found themselves locked in the 3-6 National League Wild Card Series matchup.

Sosa’s speed paid dividends for the Phillies in their comeback win in Game 1.

The Phils then shut down the Cards in Game 2, with Sosa catching the final out of the game on a popup by Tommy Edman to send the Phillies to the NLDS.

Recently, Sosa spoke about that moment, stating that he was happy to help the Phillies win, but felt a little sad for his former teammates in St. Louis.

Sosa Comments On St. Louis

Sosa is mainly used as a defensive replacement, but in St. Louis, fans love all their players, even those with minimal roles, including Sosa.

Sosa was the starter at shortstop for the Cardinals in 2021 during their 17-game win streak.

He had lost his spot to Brendan Donovan.

But Sosa clearly still holds St. Louis in high regard.

He experienced several great moments on the field at Busch Stadium.

That now includes catching the final out of the Wild Card Series.

But even in the thrill of victory, Sosa kept his former team in his heart and says that he still holds St. Louis in high regard, even after being traded away.

Now, Sosa has a chance to earn a World Series ring, as the Phillies are two wins away from a title.
