The races for the major awards that are given at the end of the baseball season are heating up.

We’re going to take a quick look at the Cy Young races in both the American League and National League.

A lot of stock is being put into the MVP races and rightfully so, but that doesn’t mean that the Cy Young races aren’t full of big names who are dominating right now.

In fact, both Cy Young favorites reside in Florida right now, those being Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins.

MLB had a clever tweet, integrating the famous and hilarious “Florida Man” meme into the Cy Young watch, and showing both of them at the top of the list in their respective leagues.

Florida Men Winning Cy Youngs

This is a clever way to integrate the famous meme, but if you look at both pitchers’ stats, you’ll see that this isn’t your typical “Florida Man” meme, where a man does something outrageous.

This is about two legitimate pitchers who are absolutely dominating right now.

The lefty McClanahan is 8-3 in 15 starts and has posted a microscopic 1.77 ERA.

Alcantara hasn’t been too shabby either.

He’s posted the same record as McClanahan has and has a 1.95 ERA in 16 starts.

He also just threw a complete game against his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals, at Busch Stadium.

Both pitchers are riding high right now and are more than likely going to be All-Stars this year.

But both of these guys are absolutely dominating right now and are currently residing in Florida.

So no, this isn’t a regular “Florida Man” meme.

It’s about two guys who are filthy on the mound and staking their claims in the Cy Young races.
