Braves Fan Laments An Old Trade Years Later
The trade that sent Adam Wainwright to the St. Louis Cardinals in December of 2003 is remembered as one of the most one-sided trades in recent memory.
The Atlanta Braves were the team that ultimately sent Wainwright to St. Louis, where he would go on to win two World Series titles and make three All-Star appearances.
Almost 20 years later, some Braves fans are still sick to their stomachs about the deal and how they gave up a potential Hall-of-Famer.
On Twitter, one Braves fan posted a photo of Wainwright in a Braves uniform prior to the trade that changed the fortune of the Cardinals franchise.
The future Cardinals ace was sent to St. Louis along with Jason Marquis and left-hander Ray King.
St. Louis sent outfielders J.D. Drew and Eli Marrero back to the Braves in exchange.

The Trade That Shook The Braves
At this point, we know the rest.
Wainwright began his career in St. Louis as a reliever and closed out both the NLCS and World Series in 2006.
One year later, the right-hander was moved to the starting rotation, where he would become a fixture.
The Braves only had Drew for the 2004 season.
Drew signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers after his days in Braves threads were over.
As for the Cardinals, they got the better end of the deal.
Wainwright has finished in the top three for Cy Young voting three times and is now five wins away from 200 for his career.
St. Louis recently re-signed the veteran right-hander to a one-year, $17.5 million deal.
Wainwright has announced that 2023 will be his final season.
