Baseball Reference Page Shares Hilarious Bobby Bonilla Fact
The calendar has shifted from June to July, which means that today, July 1, is Bobby Bonilla Day.
In other words, this year marks the 12th anniversary of the day, a day that exists because since July 1 of 2011, the New York Mets have been forced to pay Bonilla a check of over $1 million every July 1.
That will be the case until 2035.
Only 13 more years to go!
So, on a day like this, memes are made and people who hate the Mets have a lot of fun roasting them over the payment.

It’s pretty hilarious that they actually discovered this and ended up tweeting a screenshot of it.
That just shows how much fun people have had since Bobby Bonilla Day became a thing.
We always think of July as the month where we celebrate our independence as a country, but since 2011, people who hate the Mets, or people who just find it funny that the Mets still have to pay Bonilla, have had another reason to rejoice in the month of July.
It’s nice to at least have a day where the entire baseball community can just have a little fun.
This is a payment the Mets cannot escape for another 13 years.
But fear not, Mets fans!
This won’t last too much longer.
