Baker Mayfield Gets Testy With A Reporter Over Basic Question

Is Carolina Panthers starting quarterback Baker Mayfield feeling the pressure to produce four games into the 2022 NFL season?

After all, he has completed only 54.7 percent of his passes and has thrown three interceptions compared to four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, his only victory out of those games was against a New Orleans Saints squad that was struggling on offense.

Mayfield had a 48 percent completion rate that game and got lucky with a 67-yard touchdown pass to Laviska Shenault.

The Panthers also had a defensive touchdown in that game, courtesy of a fumble recovery by Marquis Haynes.

Aside from his inaccuracy, Mayfield is also having issues with his passing trajectory.

They come out from his throwing hand low, making it easy to bat them down.

That concern led to a reporter bringing up the matter, and Mayfield did not like it.

Mayfield Not In A Good Mood Anymore

Panthers beat writer for Fox Sports Radio 1340 Sheena Quick tweeted, “Baker Mayfield is asked why he doesn’t do drills to prevent batted balls. Baker: ‘If you have a drill for me, let me know.’ #Panthers.”

He repeated that line twice because the reporter did not hear it the first time.

Mayfield also said, “It’s like staying in the pocket, finding windows to throw, getting their hands down in the quick game. It’s the same things I’ve been saying.”

The former Oklahoma standout already has ten batted passes this season, five of which came against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

In Week 2, Mayfield jokingly blamed his parents for his height.

But aside from the batted balls, Mayfield isn’t connecting with his top targets.

Christian McCaffrey only has 270 rushing yards by Week 4, and Robbie Anderson leads them in receiving yards with 174.

The Panthers will have to find answers for their offensive struggles before facing the vaunted San Francisco 49ers defense in Week 5.
