The National Football League continues to crack down on players and staff members and their gambling habits, and that’s terrible news for the Detroit Lions.

According to a report by The Athletic, a fifth member of the 2022 Lions roster is being investigated for allegedly violating the NFL’s gambling policy.

The report cites that they won’t name the player in question because the investigation is still ongoing, adding that it wasn’t one of the prime members of the roster last season.

Moreover, they claim that the league has yet to interview him, and his agent and spokespersons from the team, the NFL, and the NFLPA declined to comment while the investigation is ongoing.

Notably, this is the fifth Lions player to be investigated under these accusations in the offseason.

Just a month ago, the league suspended WR Quintez Cephus and S C.J. Moore indefinitely for betting on NFL games, while WRs Stanley Berryhill and Jameson Williams were given six-game suspensions for betting on non-NFL games while being at the team’s facility.

The Lions cut ties with Cephus and Moore right away, then parted ways with Berryhill a couple of weeks later.

The league also suspended Washington Commanders DL Shake Toney indefinitely in the aftermath of this investigation, and a recent report by ESPN states that there could be a second wave of suspensions as the league continues to make this a point of emphasis ahead of the start of the 2023 season, although there haven’t been more updates about that matter until now.
