Aaron Boone Shares Gleyber Torres Injury Update

Yesterday, the New York Yankees experienced something unexpected and unfortunate when second baseman Gleyber Torres was forced to exit the game in the bottom of the ninth.

With one out, Houston Astros reliever Ryne Stanek struck out Aaron Hicks.

Torres was on third and took a secondary lead, but when he attempted to get back to third base, he slipped and injured his ankle.

Torres was then tagged out and the game was sent into extra innings.

Fortunately for the Yankees, they ended up winning yesterday’s game on Aaron Judge‘s walk-off home run, and after the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone provided an update on his embattled second baseman, courtesy of Yankees insider Bryan Hoch on Twitter.

Torres’ Injury Is Not Severe

This is good news for the Yankees.

The last thing they need is a serious injury to take out one of their stars.

Torres is hitting .250 with 13 home runs and 32 RBI thus far in 2022, while posting a solid .789 OPS.

Any time without him would be detrimental to the Yankees as they look to remain on a record pace.

But according to Boone, things are looking okay, and it does not appear to be too serious.

It appears to only be a mild sprain for Torres that shouldn’t keep him out for too long.

The Yankees open up a three-game series with the Oakland Athletics tonight.

It’s very possible that Torres may be out of the lineup for the series opener.

But again, it doesn’t appear that his sprained ankle will keep him out for that long.

In the meantime, the Yankees could potentially give Matt Carpenter a start at second base will Torres heals.

We’ll see how long it takes for him to recover.
