The New York Yankees are starving for offense at the major league level.

Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Josh Donaldson are currently injured, while Aaron Hicks, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Oswald Peraza are struggling at the moment.

The lineup has been largely unproductive, even more so since Judge hasn’t been in it.

Could it be that they consider calling up Jasson Dominguez eventually?

Well, not quite.

It’s highly unlikely that we see “The Martian” in the majors this year because he is just 20 and starting to feel comfortable at Double-A.

However, that last sentence should be a reason to celebrate: Dominguez, one the Yankees’ blue-chip prospects, is beginning to show he can be an above-average player in the upper minors.

“Jasson Dominguez is starting to put it together at Double-A (28 Regular + Postseason Career Games): 122 PAs, .394 OBP, .463 SLG, .857 OPS, 11 SBs, 23.8% BB%. The Martian has landed,” Fireside Yankees tweeted.

After hitting .105/.227/.368 with a 59 wRC+ (100 is league-average offensive performance, so he wasn’t good) in five games at Double-A last season, he had a dominant showing in the playoffs.

This year, he has kind of a unique line: .135/.387/.327 in 18 games and 75 trips at the plate.

The .135 average is not good, but the .387 OBP is elite, and so are his 10 stolen bases.

He also has two homers and 14 runs scored.

In the last five games, he has a double, a homer, a triple, six walks, and just one strikeout.

He will stay at the level for at least several more weeks, until he can get that batting average up.

However, he doesn’t need to hit .300 to be successful.

In fact, even with that .135 average, he has been a well-above average hitter this year in Double-A with a 115 wRC+.

The Yankees have every reason to be excited about the kid.
