The Los Angeles Dodgers could turn just about anyone into a reliable starter.

Granted, Tony Gonsolin is not just “anyone”: he was a good prospect as he went through the minor leagues a few years ago, but you get the point.

The Dodgers’ player development staff is amazing, and the organization has every resource that players and instructors need.

They have worked wonders with Gonsolin this season: on the outside looking for a rotation spot in years past, he has a 1.62 ERA in 2022.

That’s incredible.

In fact, he will likely make the All-Star roster in the National League, and when he does, there will be some historical implications.

“No MLB starter has ever gotten to the All-Star Break with 11+ wins and 0 losses and a sub-2.50 ERA. Gonsolin’s ERA is 1.62,” Codify Baseball tweeted.

Gonsolin Has Been Incredible And Is A Candidate To Start The All-Star Game

Wins are not really the best stat to measure a pitcher’s skill and talent level, but it’s still impressive when a pitcher accumulates 11 wins and no losses.

It’s mind-blowing, actually, and deserves some praise.

Gonsolin is a strong candidate to start the All-Star Game, which would be perfect because it will be played in Los Angeles, the Dodgers’ home.

However, Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins is an equally deserving candidate, if not more.

It’s actually one of the hottest arguments in baseball right now: Gonsolin has the ERA advantage, but Alcantara, who also has a sub-2.00s ERA, has pitched way more innings and is a true workhorse.

In any case, both have accumulated enough merits to be recognized with the honor.

There shouldn’t be any complaints as long as one of the two is taking the ball.
