The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ready for life after Tom Brady.

They hoped to get another year from the legendary quarterback but he has decided to retire.

Now the Bucs are in a bad spot when it comes to the most important position on the field.

The only options they have on their roster are Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask.

Neither has proven much as a starter during their NFL careers.

But the Bucs plan to have a competition all offseason to see who will earn the starting nod.

According to James Palmer, Bucs HC Todd Bowles said both Mayfield and Trask have had equal first-team reps this offseason.

Mayfield has proven over the past few seasons that he is not an NFL starter.

He has struggled in Cleveland and Carolina before having a decent stretch to end last season with the Rams.

But, there is enough of a track record with Mayfield to realize he is not a franchise quarterback.

Yet, the jury is still out on Trask.

The Bucs drafted him in the second round of the 2021 draft and he has not started a game.

But to spend a premium pick on Trask, you would think the Bucs want to see what they have in him.

It will be an interesting offseason for a Bucs team that is hoping to repeat as division champions.

To do so they need to get the best out of whichever quarterback they choose to start.
