For the last 15 years, stories of giant Pythons in Florida’s Everglades have been filling world news reports: recently an African Rock Python killed a 60lb Husky dog. These former “pets” or offspring of released snakes have been showing up under people’s porches, in their garages and inside people’s cars. Today there are estimated to be as many as 180,000 pythons in the state of Florida. The largest caught so far was a Burmese python, measuring over 5 meters or 18 feet long. And their presence is having a devastating impact on local wildlife- with a small mammal population decline as high as 90% in some areas. Niall joins Python Hunters Ruben Ramirez and George Brana on a series of hunts to find the invasive pythons: and discovers the slithering serpents in some of the most unexpected places.
