The next few games will be crucial for the Golden State Warriors.

As you know, they are the defending champions but they are not looking like it right now.

They currently are 8th in the West with a 20-21 record and are hoping to finally get it together and improve their standing as quickly as possible.

The Warriors will be starting a five-game road trip on Friday night, beginning with a record-breaking match against the San Antonio Spurs at the Alamodome in Texas.

They want to win that game – and the four others that follow.

As ESPN noted, the Warriors are the first defending champions to be under .500 through 41 games since the 2006-07 Miami Heat.

That Heat team didn’t end up winning the Finals and was actually pushed out of the playoffs in the opening round.

Does the same fate await the Warriors?

Following the game against the Spurs, Stephen Curry and his team will face off against the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

It sounds like they could notch a couple of victories in their belt with that lineup but the Warriors have repeatedly dropped games that they could have won, including recent ones against the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic so anything is possible.

There are many problems plaguing the Warriors right now, including inconsistent offense, lacking defense, and injuries to some of their stars.

But the roster is full now and the team is ready to shake off their issues and look like champions again.

The season is now halfway over – can the Warriors get focused and rise up the ranks in the West?
