The 2021 San Francisco Giants won 107 games and took the Los Angeles Dodgers to five games in their playoff matchup last season.

With each passing day in 2022, it has become evident that last year was a best-case scenario for the franchise.

They dropped yet another game on Thursday, against the San Diego Padres, no less, and are close to being a .500 team.

A .500 team in MLB has no business in the playoffs.

In fact, the Giants are third in the NL West division, 11.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and 5.5 behind the Padres.

The Giants Are In Danger Of Missing The Playoffs

Six teams will make the playoffs in 2022 in each league: as of Friday afternoon, the Giants have the eighth-best record in the National League.

Even the Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals have been better in 2022.

It’s still very early to count them out, and it’s hard to think a team that won 107 games can go back to being a “pumpkin” so fast: they are better than this.

However, it’s also true that they might not be nearly as good as they were in 2021 in the foreseeable future.

Key players left this offseason (Kevin Gausman and Kris Bryant come to mind) and they have endured lots of injury issues this year, too.

However, they need to improve quickly if they want to make a run at the playoffs.

They have lost eight of their last 10 games, and things appear to be spiraling out of control.
