The 2023 offseason has seen the Indianapolis Colts retooling their coaching staff.

After hiring Shane Steichen as their new head coach, the team has been looking for additional coaching help.

New head coaches usually get their own people into key positions, and this latest hire is an example of that.

The hiring of DeAndre Smith gives Steichen a coach he has worked with during his time at UNLV.

With the two already having a working relationship back in 2009, it gives the new head coach someone who knows what he wants from his offense.

The move also can help running back Jonathan Taylor.

He was the man working with the New York Giants and their running back, Saquon Barkley.

Barkley’s last two seasons were plagued by injuries and disappointments.

However, Smith’s arrival in 2022 helped the star running back to have one of the best seasons of his career.

His 1,312 rushing yards were better than his previous record set during his rookie season.

He even came close to tying his previous rushing touchdown record of 11, as he had 10 touchdowns in 2022.

With him working wonders with Barkley, the team hopes Smith can do the same with Taylor.

Taylor came into 2022 having plenty of promise, but had a down season that was plagued by injuries.

However, he can redeem himself in 2023, and has the right guy to help him.

While Steichen might be behind this hiring, the hiring benefits both the Colts and Taylor.
