The Chiefs Are Signing A Former Buccaneers Offensive Lineman

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off yet another successful season, with Andy Reid’s squad getting the best of the upstart Philadelphia Eagles to win a second Super Bowl title in the Patrick Mahomes era.

One of the main reasons for the team’s success over the last few years has been Mahomes being under center and consistently playing like the best quarterback in the NFL.

The Chiefs want to keep this trend going, and one way to do that is to protect Mahomes as much as possible with talent upfront on the offensive line.

Along with bringing in Jawaan Taylor recently, the team has reportedly agreed to terms with offensive tackle Donovan Smith, formerly of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

With Mahomes dealing with ankle issues that threatened to derail the team’s success last year, the priority seems to be adding protection, which is a smart move with what the superstar quarterback has done for the storied franchise.

As usual, with Mahomes as the starter under center, the Chiefs will be expected to be a force to be reckoned with once again in 2023 and will feel a bit better about the protection their quarterback will have moving forward.

Although the team has addressed the offensive line this offseason, the Chiefs did lose two key pieces to the offensive puzzle, with both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman deciding to sign elsewhere in NFL free agency.

Of course, the Chiefs traded superstar wideout Tyreek Hill last season, so the team likely isn’t panicking about the receiving corps yet.
