Silk Sonic are not submitting their debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, for consideration at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Rolling Stone reports. “We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly, and, most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” the band’s Bruno Mars told Rolling Stone. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”

Voting for the 2023 Grammys begins today. Albums and singles released between October 1, 2021, and September 30, 2022, are eligible for submission and consideration. Silk Sonic’s album was released on November 12, 2021.

The eligibility period for the 2022 Grammys spanned September 1, 2020, to September 30, 2021. As a result, Silk Sonic’s debut single, “Leave the Door Open,” was eligible because it was released in March 2021. At the 2022 Grammys, Silk Sonic won all four awards for which they were nominated: Best R&B Song, Best R&B Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, all for “Leave the Door Open.”

Referencing his and Anderson .Paak’s numerous victories, Mars told Rolling Stone that they’d “be crazy to ask for anything more.” He added, “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform—not once but twice—and awarding us at last year’s ceremony.”

Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Silk Sonic, as well as the Recording Academy, for additional comment and information.
