ROAD TRIP THROUGH SOUTHERN USA (LOUISIANA TO TEXAS)

0

Our road trip through southern USA started in the state of Louisiana. We visited New Orleans and the Avery Island Tabasco Factory. We then made our way to Texas to explore Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth.

00:31 NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
NOLA is a city that is known for food, music, and Mardi Gras. While in New Orleans, we visited friends and family, ate delicious food, and did a little sightseeing.

Some highlights of our New Orleans trip were:
-Cafe Du Monde (beignets and coffee)

We also did a swamp tour with Cajun Encounters while visiting Louisiana. The swamp tour was in the Honey Island Swamp. We saw plenty of alligators and a family of raccoons in their natural habitat.

11:48 TABASCO FACTORY- AVERY ISLAND, LOUISIANA
After leaving New Orleans, we headed to Texas. On our way, we made a stop at Avery Island, Louisiana to visit the world famous Tabasco Factory.

TABASCO is the most famous pepper sauce on the planet. We were curious to see how the sauce is made. At the factory we did the self-guided tour. We learned so much about the history of TABASCO, how its made, and sampled many TABASCO products (TABASCO flavored ice cream was actually delicious). We loved the food at the TABASCO Restaurant. After touring the museum and the factory stops, we recommend driving around the Jungle Gardens. The 170 acre area is beautiful and full of wildlife.

22:45 AUSTIN, TEXAS
After leaving Avery Island, we drove into Texas. We stayed for a little over a week in Texas visiting family in Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth. Austin BBQ is world famous, so we had to try some for ourselves on our tour of Austin. While in Austin, we tried to take in as much food and culture that we could.

Here are the places we visited on our tour of Austin:
-Juan in a Million (https://juaninamillion.com)
Mexican breakfast and lunch in East Austin

-Jo’s Coffee (https://www.joscoffee.com)

-Amy’s Ice Creams (https://amysicecreams.com/location/soco/)

36:29 TEXAS RODEO (FORT WORTH)
After leaving Austin, we took a quick road trip to Dallas/Forth Worth.
The rodeo at the Fort Worth Stockyards is the world’s only year round rodeo. The rodeo is held every Friday and Saturday in the Fort Worth Cowtown Coliseum.

As soon as we drove through the gates of the Fort Worth Stockyards, we felt the energy. There were people riding horses, music was playing, and people were lined up for the rodeo. The rodeo itself was entertaining. It lasted around 2 hours and there was constant action happening throughout. After leaving the Cowtown Coliseum, we walked around the Fort Worth Stockyard area. There was live music, plenty of restaurants, shops, and activities. We ate lunch at the Love Shack. We also walked around the shops and looked at the souvenirs. Going to the Fort Worth Stockyards Rodeo was a great way to see what an authentic western cowboy experience is all about.
