NEW ORLEANS – One person was shot to death outside the Bogalusa High homecoming football game Friday night.

The Bogalusa Police Department told WWL-TV shots were fired during the fourth quarter, causing the game against Jewel Summer High School to end early.

In a statement about the shooting, Bogalusa Mayor Wendy Perrette stated that the shooting happened outside the stadium, and due to heavy police presence, authorities were able to quickly take control of the situation.

Following the shooting, Bogalusa High postponed their homecoming dance, which was originally scheduled for Saturday night.

Jewel Summer High said on social media all of their students and families are safe, according to the news outlet.

This is an ongoing investigation.
