The common perception of the Carolina Panthers among fans that are not familiar with them is that they’re devoid of high-level talent on offense.

It’s understandable why some would think that way, as the team ranked 28th in passing touchdowns and 29th in passing yards this season.

That weak offense led to a 7-10 finish and the start of a remodeling project in October that resulted in head coach Matt Rhule being fired and star running back Christian McCaffrey being traded to the San Francisco 49ers.

But the Panthers do have a promising wide receiver in D.J. Moore, who had 888 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022.

He has had the misfortune of playing with some very lackluster quarterbacks during his five-year NFL career.

Prior to 2022, Moore had three consecutive seasons with over 1,100 receiving yards, which demonstrates that he does have a relatively high level of talent and skill.

It was a frustrating year for Carolina at the QB position, as they tried four different players at that position, but to no avail.

Baker Mayfield, who some thought would be the answer after being acquired via trade from the Cleveland Browns, didn’t work out, and the team ended up releasing him after six starts.

Some feel that if the Panthers simply bring in a solid quarterback, they can perhaps make the playoffs and even win their division next season.

The NFC North was frightfully weak in 2022, and it could be even weaker next season after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost Tom Brady to retirement.
