Lack of funding for toxic lead contamination cleanup in Los Angeles County frustrates residents

0

An investigation has revealed a California’s largest environmental cleanup has fallen short of its goal to remove dangerous lead from the properties of Los Angeles County residents.

For years, the environmental cleanup has been happening in the Huntington Park area after toxic dust from the Exide battery plant contaminated local soil with lead. But new studies show even the areas that have been cleaned up may still be toxic.

On Friday, Congresswoman Katie Porter hosted an event to address the lack of federal funding for the areas affected outside of southeast L.A. County.
