Is Geno Smith The QB Of The Future In Seattle?
One of the biggest, if not the biggest, surprises in the NFL so far this season has been the Seattle Seahawks.
Not only do they hold a 6-3 record and sit in first place in the NFC West, but their starting quarterback, Geno Smith, is playing amazingly well.
Through nine games, he has a 73.1 percent completion rate, which is tops in the league, 2,199 passing yards, 15 touchdown passes and a 107.2 passer rating.
No one could’ve reasonably predicted he would’ve been playing so well this season, especially given his past.
Has Seattle found its franchise quarterback for at least the next few years?
Smith Has Gone From Career Backup To A Possible Franchise Cornerstone
Smith, who is 32 years of age, was long thought of as nothing more than a decent backup signal-caller at the pro level.
A second-round draft pick in 2013, he was very underwhelming and interception-prone during his first two seasons, which came with the New York Jets, and he started to bounce around from team to team.
During the last two campaigns, he served as a backup to Russell Wilson on the Seahawks, and when Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, it looked like Drew Lock, whom Seattle got back in the deal, was penciled in as its starter.
But head coach Pete Carroll gave the QB1 spot to Smith, and right away, he proved worthy of the role by leading the Seahawks to a 17-16 win over, ironically, Wilson and the Broncos.
Smith has sent a powerful message to all of his doubters over the past couple of months.

Seattle Shouldn’t Be Complacent
Smith may well continue to play as well as he has, but it doesn’t mean the Seahawks should be content, especially given that he is not exactly a spring chicken anymore.
Next year’s NFL Draft is thought to be rich in quarterbacks that have immense potential, and if Seattle has an opportunity to nab one of them, it should do so.
Remember that Wilson was only a third-round pick back in 2012.
