✅ Getting Licensed as a Mortgage Loan Originator | What to Expect, 2023

Are you looking for a Career Change?
Getting your Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license is one of the Easiest and Fastest Licenses to Acquire. I share 5 easy steps to getting your Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license. Please stay until the end of the video to get more insight into whether you would consider joining the real estate industry.

First Things First – Sign up for courses in your Home State. Nevada requires 30 hours. On average, most states only require 20.

While there are many accredited schools to complete these hours, I personally went through https://keyrealtyschool.com/ for mine.

1) Criminal Background Check
Every mortgage loan originator (state-licensed or federally registered) must complete a CBC in NMLS. Register for an NMLS account: https://mortgage.nationwidelicensingsystem.org/Pages/default.aspx

2) Once the Background Check has been paid, you will be prompted to schedule for fingerprints. Every jurisdiction maintains its standards for licensure. While there are no indicators of needing a min credit score, a soft pull will be required and reviewed accordingly.

3) Once a SAFE test is paid for, the individual will have 180 days to schedule the testing appointment and take the test

4) Pass the Test with about 75% pass on the 1st time. You have a 30-day window to retake the exam.

5) Interview Mortgage Banker/Broker to hang your license
Ask about the Mentorship, Comp Plan, and Minimum Productivity Requirements, Marketing Dept

Total Cost:
$329 Pre-Licensing Classes (20 Required Hrs/10 Elective)
$50 Criminal Background Check
$30 Fingerprints
$110 National Exam
$15 Credit Report
TOTAL: Under $550 (rounded up)

Questions to Ask Yourself:
Where are your business/leads? Who do you know in the industry?

Qualities of a Loan Originator:
Knowledge of the RE industry
Organized & Detail Oriented
Connect/Market/Network/Prospect
Great Customer Service (work alongside clients for 45+ Days)

Flexibility:
Work from Home/Anywhere

Ultimately, I LOVE my job as I can help people with financial help/solutions that help put them in a better position. Whether that be building equity or building businesses.
